I Built The Mandarin Story Solo for 6 Years. Here's What's Next

A week ago, I shared what the first four months of 2026 looked like for The Mandarin Story. Today I want to share what the next four years look like. For six years, I've built TMS solo. One teacher. One vision. One slow, steady climb from ₹20K to ₹3L a month.
It's been the most rewarding work of my life. And it's also where I hit the ceiling of what one person can do.
From building solo to building with others
There's a phase in any small business where doing everything yourself is the whole point. You hold the quality in your own two hands. Nothing ships unless it's good enough, because you are the only filter. That was 2020 to 2025 for me: building and sustaining, one batch at a time.
But that same control becomes the cap. I can only teach so many live classes in a week. My calendar is finite. My voice is finite. Every new student who wanted to learn Mandarin with me was, in some quiet way, competing for the same limited hours.
So 2026 marks a shift. From building solo to building with others. From sustaining to scaling, at a pace that stays sustainable. 2026 to 2030 is the phase of hiring, scaling, and expanding, without burning down the thing I spent six years building.
What six years solo actually looked like
Every class. Every WhatsApp reply. Every curriculum update at midnight. Every payment follow-up, every "is this batch beginner-friendly?" message, every lesson plan. Me.
I'm not saying this for sympathy. I'm saying it because that's how online Mandarin courses get built when it's just you: slowly, stubbornly, and with your whole self poured in. The growth from ₹20K to ₹3L a month wasn't a strategy deck. It was six years of showing up.
The trap is that it works. It works just well enough that you keep doing it, until one day you realise the only thing standing between TMS and the next hundred students is the number of hours I'm awake.
What I'm building next
So here's the plan:
Pre-recorded courses, so my teaching reaches students beyond live batch capacity
A thriving community of Mandarin learners who help each other grow
A native teacher to support students with speaking practice
A version of TMS that works even when I'm off the grid
And for the first time in six years, I'm not building this phase alone. Someone has joined me to lead the business and scaling side of TMS, a role I've needed for a long time. I'll share more in the coming weeks.
All I can say is, the right people really do show up at the right time. 🌟
The fear I had to get over
I'll be honest about the objection, because I had it myself: doesn't scaling kill the thing that made TMS special? The personal touch. The fact that I taught you. Won't recorded courses and a bigger team dilute all of that?
It's a fair worry, and I sat with it for a long time. Here's where I landed. The goal was never to remove me from TMS. It was to remove the ceiling. Live classes stay. The care stays. Scaling just means more people get access to the same thing, not a watered-down version of it. Done badly, growth dilutes. Done deliberately, it lets the good part reach further.
What I actually learned
Solo has a ceiling, and pretending it doesn't is how good things quietly stall. For years I wore "I do it all myself" like a badge. It was really a limit in disguise.
The right people do show up at the right time. But only when you're finally willing to stop doing everything yourself and make room for them.
The next chapter
I have never been more excited to build, shape, and nurture TMS than I am right now.
